Motor Repair + Sales
Deciding whether to repair or replace a motor can be challenging. At Sterling Motor Technology, we accurately diagnose motor issues and recommend the best course of action. Whether your motor requires a simple “wash, bake, and bearings” service or a more extensive repair like a rewind, we adhere to strict guidelines to ensure a reliable and effective solution.
While most failed motors can be rewound, replacing a damaged motor with a new, energy-efficient model can often lead to better performance and cost savings. When evaluating rewound motor efficiency, deduct one percentage point for motors over 40 hp and two points for smaller motors. As a general rule, replacing a motor is recommended if it is under 40 hp, the rewind cost exceeds 65% of a new motor’s price, or if the motor was rewound before 1980.
However, there are cases where rewinding is the better option. Custom motors with modified shafts or unique frame adaptations may have long lead times for replacements. In today’s Lean Manufacturing environment, extended downtime may not be an option. In such cases, rewinding and rebuilding the motor can be the most practical and efficient solution.
Pump Repair + Sales
Pumps are inherently complex mechanical systems, requiring specialized knowledge for proper maintenance and repair. At Sterling Motor Technology Inc., we have the expertise and experience to restore your pump to optimal performance.

Custom Panels
Sterling Motor Technology takes pride in its expertise in panel design and fabrication. Every panel we build meets or exceeds CSA and UL standards, and we can also customize panels to comply with global electrical standards. Whether using customer-specified components or our own Sterling Motor Technology specifications with IEC and NEMA-rated components, we ensure quality and reliability.
All panels undergo electrical approval and come with comprehensive documentation, including schematics, material lists, and component manuals.
Servo Repair
Servo motors are highly sophisticated devices that require specialized testing and repair procedures to ensure optimal performance. At Sterling Motor Technology, we have a dedicated servo testing and repair department equipped with advanced diagnostic capabilities.
Before disassembly, our technicians conduct a comprehensive evaluation using our dynamic diagnostic station. The servo motor undergoes rigorous testing to assess the condition of its magnets, rotor, windings, brake, and feedback device. Once the diagnostic process is complete, the servo is carefully dismantled, and all components are inspected and measured against the manufacturer’s specifications. Any components that do not meet OEM standards are replaced to ensure reliability and performance.
Following repairs, the servo is reassembled and subjected to a final round of testing, including load testing based on nameplate data. This meticulous process guarantees a fully restored servo motor that meets OEM standards for trouble-free operation.
Whether your servo requires a minor feedback device repair or a complete rebuild, Sterling Motor Technology is committed to delivering the highest quality service with precision and reliability.

Substation Maintenance
As you’re aware, the electrical service, particularly the substation, is a critical yet often overlooked component of your electrical system. In today’s “just-in-time” manufacturing environment, any failure within this system can result in significant downtime and costly repair expenses. By implementing a routine or annual Sterling Motor Technology Preventative Maintenance Program, you can proactively detect and prevent such failures before they occur.
Our Preventative Maintenance Program includes thorough investigation and performance assessment of the following key components of your electrical service:
- System earthing
- System protection components
- Voltage and current transformers
- Circuit breakers
- Control contactors and relays
- Feeder cables
- Overhead lines
- Switchgear
- Busbar system
- Generators
With Sterling Motor Technology’s program, you can ensure the reliability and longevity of your electrical service while minimizing costly disruptions.
Thermal Imaging
Thermal imaging, also known as infrared thermography, allows us to detect temperature variations that could signal potential component failures. At Sterling Motor Technology Inc., we’ve invested in advanced thermal imaging equipment to inspect electrical devices, including motors, circuit breakers, contactors, bussways, gearboxes, and pumps. Incorporating thermal imaging into your preventative maintenance program can be incredibly valuable.
We can identify issues such as:
- Bearing overheating caused by improper lubrication or overloading
- Contactor wear
- Breaker overloading
- Incorrect gear lubrication
- Loose buss bar fasteners
- Weak buss plug finger springs
- System grounding faults
Electrical Power Analyzing
Electrical Power Analyzing is the process of measuring, monitoring, and evaluating electrical parameters to assess the performance and efficiency of power systems. It helps in diagnosing power quality issues, optimizing energy consumption, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
